Gather. Sip. Shop.
Stay awhile.
A gourmet market & a self-serve wine bar
In the historic 1932 apple packing shed on Route 151, The Roost brings the best of the Blue Ridge under one roof. Local wine and craft beer poured by your own hand, artisan cheeses and provisions, and a place made for lingering.
In the apple packing shed of 1932
The gateway to Nelson County — under one historic roof.
The Roost was born from a simple idea: a year-round gathering place that brings more of Nelson County together. A gourmet market and a self-serve wine bar where local farmers, winemakers, bakers, and makers share what they do, where neighbors shop for thoughtfully curated provisions, and where visitors discover the people, products, and places that make this region worth exploring.
A small confession: the photographs here are how we imagine The Roost, not pictures of it yet. We’ll trade them for the real thing as the doors get closer.
How we picture a full tableGather
Come together.
A gathering place for locals and visitors alike. Meet a friend, taste local wines from our self-serve system, settle in with a glass and fresh charcuterie, or simply stay awhile. Seasonal events, tastings, and community, year round.

Taste Virginia and beyond.
A self-serve wine system lets you explore a rotating selection by the taste or the glass, at your own pace. Virginia wine leads, with thoughtfully chosen bottles from beyond, plus regional cider and beer. Relaxed, approachable, nothing like a formal tasting room. Start at The Roost to discover which Nelson County winery might be your next stop, or find a hidden gem you haven’t visited yet.

Take something good home.
Not a wine bar with a shop attached, but a true gourmet market. Fill your basket with local meats and cheeses, fresh and organic produce, prepared foods, breads, flowers, Virginia wine, artisan goods, art, and beautifully curated gifts, all under one roof.

Stay Awhile
Explore Nelson County.
More than a stop, a starting point. The Roost is the gateway to Nelson County. Pack a picnic, discover a local wine, and let us point you toward what comes next, the wineries, trails, and places to stay that make the drive worth it. Come for what you need. Stay because it feels good to be here.

The self-serve wine experience
Pour your own. Explore at your pace.
Tap a card, choose a taste, a half, or a full glass, and let the wall pour it for you. It is the easiest way we know to discover a new Virginia winemaker, compare two vineyards side by side, or decide which cellar door to visit next, no sommelier hovering, no pressure.
Out back
Room to gather by the creek, year round.
Outdoors
The Run
A grassy stretch of picnic tables beside the creek that feeds the South Fork Rockfish. Grab provisions from the shop and make an afternoon of it.
Curated by good people
The Roost isn’t just about Brad and Andrea. We’re bringing together people with real expertise to thoughtfully curate everything under our roof.
“The Roost brings together just about everything I love in one place: great wine, warm hospitality, and the chance to share something new with guests every time they walk through the door. Add in Nelson County, one of the most beautiful corners of Virginia, and this was an easy yes for me.”
“The heart of a place is found in the people, stories, and creativity that make it unique. The Roost is an opportunity to celebrate the incredible artists and makers in our county, giving their work a beautiful space to be discovered and connected with, where art, agriculture, wine, and local spirit come together.”
